Shelter is a gentle soul, a benevolent presence among wayward pups. She gladly accept the title of "Mother" that the orphaned pups in her care bestow upon her. Her maternal instincts are too strong for her to ignore. She is not prone to aggression or violence, but she is protective and quick to act when she feels that a puppy is threatened. Although she is fairly reclusive and shy, she desires the presence of a pack to keep her safe.
[break]
[break]Shelter is a mutt; nobody is quite sure what went into her, but the general consensus is that she is at least part border collie and part Australian cattle dog. Even knowing this, she prefers to call herself a mutt. It tends to make stray mixed-breed puppies feel more welcome and gives them a sense of solidarity.
[break]
[break]She is blue merle, with varying amounts of white and dark gray in a ticked pattern all over her body. Her left eye is blue, her right eye brown. Her ears perk up but flop at the tips.

[break]History
[break]
[break]Shelter was born on the streets. Her mother attempted to care for her and her brother but a tragedy befell the family: the young mother, attempting to catch food for her pups, learned a deadly lesson about prey that did not fear its hunter. A rabid bat bit her on the paw. A few weeks later, the loving mother turned on her pups in a violent, mindless rage. Her son, the runt, stood no chance. He died quickly and would never endure the horror that is rabies. Her daughter escaped and found a new home: an abandoned doghouse from pre-apocalypse days with SAFE SHELTER painted above the door. A brave (or perhaps foolish) human ascended to the surface, found her, and fed her. He named her Shelter in reference to her home. One day, he never came back, and Shelter left her home to forge a new life for herself.
